Electorate in Oke Ero Local Government Area of Kwara on Saturday
commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the
smooth conduct of Oke Ero constituency by-election in their
constituency.
Voters, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilofa,
headquarters of Oke Ero Local Government Area, were particularly happy
that accreditation and voting commenced on schedule.
A voter, Olaoye Babatunde, said the simultaneous accreditation and
voting adopted by INEC, was a good innovation that removed rancour from
the polling units.
Babatunde also noted that card reader used for accreditation in his
polling unit worked well, adding that where the machine was unable to
recognise fingerprints, polling officers used incident forms to accredit
affected voters.
He called on the commission to adopt the simultaneous accreditation and voting method in future elections.
Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Alhaji Baba Yusuf,
after monitoring the exercise, expressed satisfaction with the turnout
of voters and their overall conduct at the polling units.
Yusuf commended all ad hoc staff for their diligence in handling the
exercise, and urged them to ensure that all eligible and accredited
voters cast their votes.
Chairman of Oke Ero Local Government Council, Hajia Aminat Yusuf, also
expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise. (NAN)
