Antonio Conte Explains Why He Chose Nemanja Matic Over Cesc Fabregas In West Brom Game

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has revealed he opted for Nemanja Matic instead of Cesc Fabregas in the starting XI to cope with West Brom’s physical threat

Nemanja Matic returned to the Chelsea line-up for the match against West Brom today after missing out on their 3-1 win over Manchester City last weekend through injury.

Cesc Fabregas made way for the Serbia international in the only change for Chelsea who has fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge this season.

Antonio Conte admitted he had no choice but to bring Matic back into the starting XI but is happy to have an option like Fabregas to call upon from the bench.

Antonio Conte while speaking to BT Sports after the West Brom victory said

“West Brom, for sure, is a physical team,”

But I think Matic, before the injury, played very well and it’s right to continue to play that.

“To have a good substitute like Cesc is important for me.”
